X-rays prove Jesus rose from the dead
In her TED talk, Margaret Heffernan gives us the example of Dr Alice Mary Stewart. In 1956 Dr Stewart had enough evidence that X-raying pregnant women can cause childhood cancer in the babies.
But her claim went against conventional wisdom and practice. If true, there would be a new way of doing medicine. Most chose not to believe her despite the evidence.
It took another 25 years before people believed her.
So what changed?
Her colleague George Kneale - who was open to belief - tried to prove that the evidence was wrong. But he couldn't. So he believed her.
The Bible claims Jesus rose from the dead. The writers of the Bible have enough evidence to support this claim.
If true, there will be a new way of living. So most of us choose not to believe.
But if we are open to beliefs - we could try to prove that the evidence is wrong.
This is what Lee Strobel, Josh McDowell and Frank Morison (Albert Henry Ross) tried. But they couldn't. So they believed that Jesus rose from the dead.
Lack of evidence isn't what stops us from believing. Usually we're locked into conventional wisdom and practice. So we end up choosing not to believe. But if we're open to all beliefs, we should at least examine the evidence for the Bible's claim that Jesus rose from the dead.
