Star Wars 'Rogue One' is Hopeless without Hope - So are We

"We have hope. Rebellions are built on hope."

This is the tagline in the trailer to the latest Star Wars movie - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

In Rogue One, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) inspires the Rebellion to steal the plans for the Death Star. But why bother to do this?

Because of hope.

Without hope, no cause is worth dying for. But with hope, there is everything to live for, and everything to die for.

Jyn Erso's mission only makes sense because of hope.

And our life only makes sense because of hope.

Hope gets us out of bed. Why? So we can make a difference. So we can fulfil our purpose and destiny. So we can leave this world a better place for our children.

But where do we get this hope from? Why do we sense this world is not the way it should be? Why do we long for a better place?

If we're just atoms and molecules - why should we care? Stuff just happens - get over it. There is no good or bad, happy or sad, better or worse. Things just are. There are no noble causes, no fights worth fighting, no quests worth conquering.

But we do care. We do long for a better future. We hope.

Our life needs hope.

Our life needs hope so much that Jesus came into our world to die for us, to show that things are not the way they should be, to give us a better future.

To give us hope.
